UFC women’s strawweight contender Yan Xiaonan is hoping to earn a title shot with a win over Carla Esparza next weekend at UFC Vegas 27.
Xiaonan (13-1, 1 NC) has quickly emerged as one of the top strawweights on the UFC roster ever since making her promotional debut in 2017. Since then, she has won all six of her UFC fights, including notable wins over Claudia Gadelha, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and Angela Hill. Many analysts of the sport believe that Xiaonan has all the makings of a future UFC champion and a win over Esparza at UFC Vegas 27 could very well get here there.

UFC Vegas 26 final fight stats: Marina Rodriguez sets personal striking records
Marina Rodriguez set personal records in significant strikes and total strikes in victory over Michelle Waterson

Marina Rodriguez gave up nine takedowns on 14 attempts in the three fights before she faced Michelle Waterson in the main event of UFC Vegas 26. Rodriguez defended the attempts of Waterson, and stopped four of five shots on her way to a unanimous decision victory.
Rodriguez had height and reach advantages over Waterson, and with the move from strawweight to flyweight because of the short notice nature of the five-round fight, Rodriguez probably had a power advantage as well over the former Invicta FC atomweight champion.

At the beginning of this month, Jiri Prochazka had a sterling sophomore appearance in the UFC, knocking out Dominick Reyes in the main event of UFC Vegas 25 with a spinning back elbow. The finish was immediately lauded as a Knockout of the Year contender and vaulted Prochazka up to third in the UFC light heavyweight rankings. But for as great a showing as it was, the former KSW light heavyweight champion was not as excited about his performance as everyone else was.
“I’m enjoying what I’m doing, the show and the movement, but my idea of fighting is to be the master of fighting,” Prochazka told RT Sport recently. “ That’s something because the true master is in a fight for (only) the time what is necessary. That was not the master with Dominick. That was a war. That was a war and I don’t like it.”
