A Wisconsin priest who criticized his diocese for not conducting in-person Mass during the pandemic has been asked by his bishop to resign from his post at St. James the Less Catholic Church in La Crosse.
The Rev. James Altman, who has characterized Democrats as godless, said he will appeal the request from Bishop William Callahan. The bishop told Altman he was divisive and ineffective, Altman said.
Altman has referred COVID-19 an “alleged virus” and discouraged vaccination, calling the vaccines “experimental.”
“Good Catholics from around the world have been supportive, Altman said at Mass Sunday. Unfortunately from our cancel culture, if the left whines, like they do, like spoiled brats, often enough they succeed in canceling so many voices of truth. And now they are whining like, if I may say it, like the pansy babies they are, to cancel me.
