PBA commissioner Willie Marcial has vowed to give his all-out support to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas as the country prepares to host the third and last leg of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers in February.
With the successful run of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup from October to early December, the SBP has joined forces with the PBA to share the learnings and experience in making a bubble setup.
“Kung anong kailangang tulong ng SBP, simula noong umupo ako [sa PBA], [from] players, coaches [at] heto pang nalaman namin sa bubble, tutulungan namin ang SBP,” said Marcial in a recent joint virtual press conference.

SBP set to announce PBA-reinforced Gilas pool next week
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is now in the process of drafting a list of PBA players that it will include in the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers to be held in Clark, Pampanga this February.
In a joint virtual press conference along with the PBA, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC), and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), SBP president Al S. Panlilio said the federation is looking to submit the names to commissioner Willie Marcial next week. The ball is actually in my court. I need to work with coach Tab Baldwin on the list and get back to commissioner Willie next week, said Panlilio.

Bases Conversion and Development Authority chief Vince Dizon vowed to provide the eight-country delegation with the same amount of security the PBA contingent had when the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers kicks off in Clark, Pampanga in February next year.
Strict protocols will be enforced throughout the duration of the tournament, with the host laying on the table the exact blueprint of the successful PBA bubble which ended recently without any major hiccups except for the two “false positives.”
