Ugwuanyi’s wife campaigns against gender-based violence in Enugu State

The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi, on Wednesday, rounded off her state and zonal campaigns against gender-based violence, calling for an all-inclusive and sustained crusade to stem the tide of domestic violence, sexual abuse, female genital mutilation, public harassment, among other forms of violence against women in the society.
Mrs. Ugwuanyi who also used the events to scale up awareness on yellow fever and the importance of the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination, described gender-based violence as barbaric and a violation of human rights.

‘Classroom congestion’ll soon disappear in Enugu’

Retiring permanent Secretary in Enugu State Ministry of Education, Dr Nwnneka Onah has disclosed that the congested public school classrooms in the state will soon be a thing of the past following the infrastructure being put in place by both the state’s Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, and the Universal Basic Education Board, ENSUBEB.
She also attested to the quality of teachers in the state’s payroll, noting that the ministry goes further to engage experts who retrain the teachers on a continuous basis.
Onah however said that the case of lack of teachers in some schools was majorly due to paucity of fund, which hinders employment in some cases, noting however that the state government had engaged in the recruitment of teachers since 2018.

Environmental pollution, cause of low life expectancy in Nigeria ― Survey

Some stakeholders in the South–East of Nigeria have blamed environmental pollution in some parts of the country for a low life expectancy of Nigerians, a survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has revealed.
An environmentalist and university lecturer, Professor Mike Abaribe of Imo State University, noted that residents of communities with a high level of oil spillage were exposed to an early death.
Abaribe said that besides low life expectancy, agricultural activities would be adversely affected in any area with high level of oil spillage.

The Justice of the Federal High Court in Enugu, Dugbo Oghoghorie, on Tuesday, granted N1 million bail to Hillary Obetta, who is charged with N4 million fraud.
He is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (
The judge, however, ordered that Mr Obetta should be kept in the prison custody until he was able to fulfil the bail condition.
“Bail is hereby granted. However, the defendant must be remanded in custodial centre until his bail condition is perfected.
“The bail condition includes deposit of N1 million to the court and provision of two sureties – one must be his brother, the other, a civil servant on or above grade level 14, whose appointment letter and other workplace evidence should be verified by the court bailiff,” the judge held.
