An Athens County sheriff s deputy was arrested on Friday in connection to a sexual abuse case involving the family of a previously missing teen, prosecutors said.
Jimmy Childs, 52, is facing felony charges of tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice, according to a release from the Athens County Prosecutor s Office.
The alleged incidents occurred between May 18 and May 21, following last week s indictments of Robert, Deborah, Jonathan and Josiah Bellar on charges related to ongoing sexual abuse of children in the household, officials said. Childs is accused of deleting a record of a phone call with Robert Bellar during the execution of a search warrant, not informing any supervisor of the telephone call until after his phone was seized, deleting Robert Bellar’s contact from his phone and making a false statement during the investigation, the release states.
Four members of the Bellar family are currently faces charges.

A father and son appeared in court Friday on separate indictments related to the alleged ongoing sexual abuse of children in Athens County.
Robert Bellar, 54, is charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and two counts of endangering children. His son, 26-year-old Jonathan Bellar, is charged with gross sexual imposition.
Both pleaded not guilty and Robert was given a $1 million bond while Jonathan’s bond was set at $100,000.
Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said the sexual abuse investigation started when a now 18-year-old woman, who is alleged to be one of the victims, posted online about several allegations, including sexual assault.
