UGA grounds employee charged with child molestation
A University of Georgia employee was arrested Monday on two counts of child molestation, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Obadiah John Lindsey, 26, remained Tuesday in the Athens-Clarke County Jail without bond. The GBI provided a Monroe address for Lindsey, but he also has an Athens address on Riverbend Park, according to jail records.
The investigation began after authorities said the Athens office of the GBI was contacted by agents in the GBI’s Americus office, who revealed that during a separate investigation they discovered Lindsey was having sexual contact with a juvenile in Clarke County.
A homeless man was charged Sunday with sexually assaulting a young clerk whom he held captive for hours after abducting her from a convenience store in Athens.
The woman’s life was threatened several times by the suspect, who forced her to call for a Lyft ride to the Howard Johnson motel on Atlanta Highway, where he intended to sexually assault the 19-year-old woman again, according to Athens-Clarke police.
The suspect, Melvin Scott Allison, 51, whose last known address was in Jackson County, faces charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated sodomy, battery, sexual battery and false imprisonment.
Allison, apprehended while trying to hide under garbage bags inside a trash bin at the motel, remained in the Athens-Clarke County Jail without bond Monday.
Hart County man charged in Athens wreck that killed pregnant woman
A Hart County man was charged Wednesday with vehicular homicide and feticide by vehicle following a wreck almost two weeks ago in Athens that claimed the life of a woman and her unborn child.
Athens-Clarke police charged Clinton Jester, 37, of Anderson Highway, Hartwell, in the crash that killed passenger Alana Elise Barnes, 27, of Lavonia, who was 15 weeks pregnant.
Jester was not seriously injured in the wreck that occurred about 9:30 a.m. Jan. 16 on Danielsville Road near the Nowhere Road intersection, police said.
Jester is also charged with reckless driving, failing to obey a traffic control device, traveling too fast for conditions and driving while his license was suspended. He also faces a charge of possessing methamphetamine and a parole violation.
A Jackson County man was charged Friday with the December slaying of one man and the shooting of another at Rolling Ridge Apartments in Athens.
Athens-Clarke police Lt. Shaun Barnett said Christopher Tryone Rollins, 30, of Jefferson is charged with murder in the slaying of Quamick Malik Aziz, 27, of Athens.
Rollins also faces a charge of aggravated assault for wounding 22-year-old Deundre Moses, 22, of Athens.
Rollins, who is in jail without bond, is also charged with possession of a firearm during a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
“While an arrest has been made, our investigation is still ongoing so we are not releasing a motive,” Barnett said. “Investigators are confident they know the motive.”
