DETROIT, May 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Health Alliance Plan, a Michigan-based nonprofit health plan, is strengthening its commitment to Medicare and Medicaid members with the appointment of Kristy O Connor Strain as director of Medicare product and Medicare sales operations, and Brian Keane as vice president of Medicaid. Strain will oversee HAP s Medicare product expansion, including a dual special needs program (DSNP) expansion in Southeast Michigan. Keane is responsible for overseeing HAP s Medicaid growth strategies, including Medicare-Medicaid Plans (MMP), as the company continues to focus and engage around Medicaid.

On Wednesday in the Northern District of Illinois, a class-action complaint was filed against Aetna Better Health of Illinois. The lead plaintiff alleged that she received unsolicited text messages from the defendant, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).
The plaintiff received a text message from Aetna on Dec. 21, 2020, stating: “Hi, starting 12/01/20, you are now a member of Aetna Better Health of Illinois,” followed by a link to Aetna’s website. The message ended with “Not a member of ABHIL? Text WRONG,” the complaint shows.
However, the plaintiff was not insured by Aetna, so this message was confusing to her. She received additional messages on Dec. 23 and Dec. 28, 2020, after which she replied, “Stop,” according to the complaint. Aetna replied with “Messages about Branding have been stopped. CHICAGO (AP) - A December decision by insurer Aetna to drop Walgreens from its Illinois Medicaid plan is making it harder for thousands of low-income Chicago residents to get their prescriptions filled.
The Chicago Tribune reports Aetna’s decision to exclude the Walgreens chain from its Aetna Better Health of Illinois pharmacy network affects about 400,000 state residents. Many of them are poor and critics say they are already disproportionately those suffering from COVID-19 and unemployment.
In a written statement, Aetna, which owns Walgreens’ rival CVS, responded it has nearly 2,000 in-network pharmacies statewide for Medicaid members, including independent pharmacies and those in national and regional chains such as Walmart and Jewel-Osco.
