Lake Superior State University to survey Cadillac households to help city qualify for community development bick grants

CADILLAC — The City of Cadillac is working with Lake Superior State University researchers to survey a random selection of residents to update basic demographic information to try to become eligible to qualify for grants and programs (outside funding), to assist in revitalizing City infrastructure. Researchers from the Community Research Center at Lake Superior State University will be visiting randomly selected households over the next few weeks to conduct a short, anonymous survey of the following information: 1. Your household’s size and income level (with only one category – Do you make above or below an amount based upon the number of people in your household?).

Door-to-door income survey getting underway

Answer them, the city says. The researchers won t be asking for a specific dollar amount—they ll just want to know if you make above or below a threshold that will be based on your household size. The city of Cadillac issued a reminder this week that Lake Superior State University researchers will be surveying a random selection of residents. The research could help the city update demographic information that could help the city qualify for funding. Recently, the city wasn t eligible for outside funding because the city didn t qualify as a low-income community. The survey will take one to two minutes and will be anonymous.

Sault artist: Creating beauty softens the rough edges of life

Sault artist: ‘Creating beauty softens the rough edges of life’ The Sault News Phyllis Bigelow, a Chippewa County native, has been expressing her passion for rug hooking and stained glass art for 40 years.  Bigelow is from a long line of Chippewa County residents since her maternal great grandparents, from Ontario, were some of the first homesteaders of Bruce Township in the late 1870s. Bigelow received a bachelor of arts degree with a secondary teaching certificate from Lake Superior State University and spent many years teaching in the Sault Area Schools. “I was always interested in art and architecture, color and design, although I have never studied any of it formally,” said Bigelow. “I remember loving art back in grade school and I always scored high on interest tests in school. I believe our passions are with us from early childhood.”
