For the 12th year in a row Word Warriors at Wayne State University have released its list of eminently useful words that should be brought back in 2021.
Each year, I’m surprised by the variety of the submissions we receive from around the world. Our Word Warriors once again provided a batch of words that make our language richer. The English language is so versatile and unique, and we’ve ended up with another list of 10 great words. ~Chris Williams, assistant director of editorial services for Wayne State Marketing and Communications, and head of the Word Warriors program

It seems odd that a badly overused metaphor – war – has been largely overlooked when describing one of the biggest non-war crises in decades.
War is the trite and often inappropriate metaphor for sports. The game itself is a contrivance, full of its own jargon and its sport’s history. Why gild the lily, such as it is?
And politicians can’t help themselves, feeling the need to pump up support for the crisis of the day. But the war on drugs didn’t work, and it hurt a lot of people. The war on poverty had its successes – and its unintended consequences. Almost half a century ago, we had an energy crisis that a president called the moral equivalent of war, and we immediately chose surrender.
DETROIT, MI (AP) A team at Wayne State University in Detroit has released an annual list of little-used words it deems worthy of resurrection.
Anagapesis, blatteroon, snollygoster and footle are among the 10 words selected by Wayne State University s Word Warriors. Unlike overused words or phrases that counterparts at Lake Superior State University list each year for banishment, the Word Warriors want to dust off those that have fallen over the decades into disuse.
The school says submissions come throughout the year from Detroit residents and other wordsmiths.
