Somerset man sentenced to 3 years for heroin possession, bail jumping

David A. Letner A Somerset man initially accused of drug trafficking has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to heroin possession and bail jumping. David Allen Letner, 35, was sentenced July 12 to two years for first-degree Possession of a Controlled Substance (first offense, heroin) to be served consecutively with a one-year sentence for first-degree Bail Jumping. The charges stem from a March 6 traffic stop conducted by Pulaski County Deputy Sheriff Trent Massey on West Ky. 914. According to his arrest citation, a registration check of Letner s 2008 Hyundai Tiburon indicated that Letner s license was suspended. Upon making contact with him, Dep. Massey reported Letner had glassy, bloodshot eyes and was sweating profusely.

(LEX 18) — As we work towards the end of the pandemic, there s a type of therapy making a real difference. It isn t so much a medication, but it does have four legs. You could say hospital staff and patients have had a paw-sitive experience with the two therapy dogs, Freedom and Cassie. The recently established pet therapy program at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is the sign of some more normalcy returning. Both Cassie and Freedom bring smiles to a place where smiles have been needed most.

Somerset man charged after fleeing from PCSO deputies three times

Jonathan Toby Whiles A Somerset man was arrested on several charges after fleeing Pulaski County Sheriff’s deputies several times over the course of a 26-hour period. Jonathan Toby Whiles, 37, of Pine Hill Lane, was charged with two counts of first-degree Fleeing or Evading Police; two counts of first-degree Wanton Endangerment of a Police Officer, one count of first-degree Wanton Endangerment, two counts of first-degree Criminal Mischief, Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Failure to Render Aid or Assistance, Reckless Driving and a previous warrant for Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition Under $500. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said that more charges against Whiles may come after further investigation.

PCHS graduate Shelbie Black serving as SPEDA summer intern

SPEDA intern Shelbie Black is a Pulaski County High graduate. Earning a summer internship is a huge score for any graduating senior. But finding one that allows you to make your community a better place can be a game-changer. Shelbie Black understood that immediately when a school professional sent her information about an internship opportunity with the Somerset-Pulaski Economic Development Authority (SPEDA). I started looking through SPEDA s website and Facebook, and it was quickly obvious that SPEDA was out there advocating for this community and making it a place that I want to live, Black said. When I started learning more about SPEDA it became abundantly clear that there was no way I d rather spend my summer. Of course, with any internship, learning from experienced professionals is one of the greatest perks, but what makes working with SPEDA unique is getting to be a small part of my community s strongest advocate and change maker.

LCRH unleashes Therapy Dog Program

submitted Cassie with handler Lawrence Underwood. Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital has recently established a pet therapy program for patients and staff throughout the facility. Cassie, a 19-month-old Red Merle Australian Shepherd and Freedom, an 8-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever, are the two new caring canines offering support and comfort to patients and staff on a regular basis. Cassie, a Certified Therapy Dog through KY-911 C.O.P.s. (Community Outreach Pups), has her Certificate of Excellence and badges for Service Dog and KY-K911 Soldier Saver. Her pet parents and handlers are Lawrence and Marsha Underwood who are both employees at LCRH. Freedom is a facility dog and is owned by Paws with Purpose (PwP), a 501c non-profit organization in Louisville, Kentucky that provides assistance dogs to many hospitals around the state. Facility dogs begin their training as early as 8 weeks of age and partner with a facilitator working in a health care, visitation, or education setting
