Lake Champlain (Provided photo — AdkAction) KEESEVILLE AdkAction has been awarded $50,000 by the Lake Champlain Basin Program for a new “Clean Water, Safe Roads” partnership to reduce salt polluting the 125-mile-long lake between New York and Vermont. Together with partners from Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute and Lake Champlain Sea Grant, this project will implement a comprehensive, personalized outreach and education program to municipal highway departments in the Lake Champlain Basin. In 2017 AdkAction developed a Pledge to Reduce Road Salt for municipal partners that demonstrates a community’s commitment to work in good faith to reduce the levels of road salt application. “Clean Water, Safe Roads” will support continued education and outreach to Champlain Basin municipalities in New York that have already signed the pledge and is expected to bring additional municipalities on board.

Marie Audet: A revolution to fight climate change is growing under our feet

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   COVID-19 has affected every aspect of our lives. We are all suffering on so many levels and the uncertainty of what lies ahead takes a toll. While news of the vaccine brings us hope, it will be months or more before we are safe. Hopefully the summer will bring back a sense of normalcy in our daily lives and renewed energy for another fight: the fight against climate change. At Blue Spruce Farm, we are adapting to the immediate impacts of COVID-19 while remaining steadfast in creating a future with cleaner water, healthier soil, and cleaner air. It is time for us collectively to reverse climate change with the same urgency we have approached defeating COVID-19. We are doing our part through regenerative agricultural practices to save and improve our soils and sequester carbon, drawing down carbon dioxide from the air.

Village of Lake Placid considers Mirror Lake research funding | News, Sports, Jobs

eizzo@adirondackdailyenterprise.com Lake Placid village officials are considering signing a contract with the Ausable River Association that would help the organization continue its biological and water quality monitoring of Mirror Lake. If authorized by the Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees, the service agreement would help the association along in its goal to fully fund its new Ausable Sustainable Salt Initiative. The Ausable Sustainable Salt Initiative, slated to span at least five years, was created to allow the Ausable River Association to continue regular water quality and biological monitoring of Mirror Lake, to purchase additional monitoring equipment, and enable the organization to create an emergency fund that will provide the group resources it needs to respond to crises that may arise.
