LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) -The medical director for Region Five of the Louisiana Health Department, Dr. Lacey Cavanaugh, says the area’s daily case count is its highest ever. She and local officials and physicians discussed the pandemic in our area and vaccination efforts.
Dr. Cavanaugh says the highest case count is among eighteen to twenty-nine year old people but by far, she says, the highest death count is those over the age of 70.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) -As those numbers climb across the state, Southwest Louisiana has not reached the high hospitalization rate seen back in the summer. Hospitalizations may not be at their peak in Southwest Louisiana, but providers say that doesn’t mean it’s time for people to stop taking precautions.
We’re in what many are calling wave 3 of the pandemic in Louisiana, but for now, hospitalizations in region 5 are holding steady.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The first baby of 2021 in Southwest Louisiana was born at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for Women on Friday morning.
Sadie and Cody Lacombe of Iowa introduced their first baby boy into the world at 6:36 a.m. on New Yearâs Day.
Hayes Lane weighed in a 7 pounds, 15 ounces, and is 19.7 inches long.
The new parents say they knew the birth would be special, but they did not expect their baby would be celebrated by all of Southwest Louisiana.
