STATELINE, Nev. Legendary weatherman Al Roker is headlining Lake Tahoe’s annual national weather conference, Operation Sierra Storm, next week as the event moves to an online platform.
Roker will be the keynote speaker on Monday, Jan. 25 that takes place from 8-11:30 a.m. on Facebook Live hosted by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.
Roker has spent over 40 years with NBC and is well known through the Today Show. Roker will discuss his passion, interest and concerns about climate change, as well as his storied career.
As head of the NBC Climate unit, Roker has traveled the globe witnessing and reporting on the drastic effects of climate change. From his “Climate Conversations,” breaking down climate topics for kids to his hard-hitting coverage, Roker has been a leader in keeping news of the topic at the forefront.
The NHL s decision to come to Lake Tahoe to host two games next month in part was due to the strong relationship Edgewood Lake Tahoe and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority have with NBC and the American Century Championship.

STATELINE, Nev. National Hockey League officials wanted a picturesque landscape where they could build an ice rink surrounded by snow-coverered mountains for maximum visual impact, and Lake Tahoe “fit the bill.”

NHL officials said on Monday that they were blown away with Lake Tahoe and its proven track record for hosting major events.
“We went to Tahoe, a very small group, and we were blown away by the setting, the blank canvas that it presents for us,” NHL chief content producer Steve Mayer said. “It’s hosted major events before. We felt very confident, especially in a short time frame, that we would be able to hold a world-class event and Tahoe will be a great host. It was a pretty easy decision.”
