The announcement, made through social media, states that 384 organizations including Lake Area Technical College and Mitchell Technical College received generous donations to assist in continuing the good work they are already doing. The colleges will be using the donation to support transformative initiatives that will remove barriers for students and allow them the success everyone deserves.

As Lake Area Technical College continues to grow, officials provided an update on the five-year, $40 million capital campaign launched in 2019.
At the time of the update, they didnât expect to receive a significant boost from one of the worldâs wealthiest people.
On Wednesday, LATC announced the school, along with Mitchell Technical College, received monetary donations from philanthropist and novelist MacKenzie Scott. Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, allocated the collegesâ donations as part of nearly $4.2 billion in charitable giving to 384 organizations.
In a Medium blog post, Scott wrote she targeted the donations via a data-driven approach to support people suffering the financial effects brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Scott wrote that the donations will go toward a mix of short and long term initiatives including food banks as well as educational institutions that train people for skilled careers.

Many of the gifts, which were made over the last four months, went to historically Black colleges or universities, tribal colleges, or community colleges. Among the beneficiaries are Prairie View A&M University, an HBCU in Texas, which described Scott’s $50 million gift as the largest ever gift in the college’s history. Other HBCUs reported receiving record-breaking gifts from Scott in the tens of millions: Morgan State University, in Baltimore, reported a gift of $40 million; Winston-Salem State University, in North Carolina, reported a gift of $30 million; and Delaware State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore reported gifts of $20 million each.

Mitchell Technical College and Lake Area Technical College in Watertown are going to be beneficiaries of more than $4 billion of giving from philanthropist and novelist MacKenzie Scott, it was announced Wednesday.
The amount of the gift for the colleges was not stated in the announcement. Scott, who is deemed the richest woman in the world with a net worth of more than $60 billion, has committed $4.15 billion in philanthropy, much of it directed toward supporting those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
