Lake Regional Announces 2 New Directors, 2 New Managers

Lake Regional Health System is pleased to announce the start of two directors and two managers.
Dana Berhorst, LMSW, has been promoted to manager of operations for Home Health and Hospice. She will manage the daily operations of Home Health, Hospice and Chronic Care Management to ensure regulatory compliance and quality improvement. Berhorst joined Lake Regional in 2015 as director of Social Work and has worked in Home Health and Hospice since 2018. She lives in Rocky Mount.
Terrah Reeves, CMSR, AAPPR, has been promoted to manager of Physician Recruitment. She joined Lake Regional in 2007 and has been serving as the physician recruiter since 2012. Reeves will continue to be responsible for provider recruitment and engagement and also will work with the administration to develop strategic plans based on community recruitment needs. Reeves lives in Camdenton.
Nurses’ Week: Lindsey Griffin sees nurses as the heart of the team

Throughout National Nurses’ Week, May 6 to 12, Lake Regional Health System and the Lake Sun will celebrate the nursing profession with profiles of exceptional nurses working at the health system. -
Lindsey Griffin, R.N., considers herself lucky. She gets to work in the very place that ignited her interest in health care. At an early age, she experienced first-hand the positive impact that nurses have on patient care.
“When I was 14, I had an appendectomy at Lake Regional Hospital,” Griffin said. “I received phenomenal care during my stay, and ever since then, I wanted to be a nurse. Now I am an ICU nurse, and I ve been part of the incredible team at Lake Regional since 2014.”

Throughout National Nurses’ Week, May 6 to 12, Lake Regional Health System and the Lake Sun will celebrate the nursing profession with profiles of exceptional nurses working at the health system. -
Like most nurses, Kathy Peterson, R.N., performs a variety of duties every day, but she doesn t work in a hospital or clinic. She goes directly to the patients, providing care in their homes.
“After graduating from nursing school, I joined Lake Regional Home Health,” Peterson said. “I liked the idea of working with patients in their home environments, and the flexible schedule was appealing.”
Cherie Sommer, FNP-BC, joins Lake Regional Express Care

Lake Regional Health System is pleased to welcome Cherie Sommer, FNP-BC, to Lake Regional Express Care – Camdenton on a full-time basis. Sommer joined the clinic part-time in January 2021.
“Sommer is an attentive, skillful provider, and we are grateful to now have her on the team providing full-time care to our patients,” said Lori Jones, clinic manager of Lake Regional Express Care – Camdenton.
Sommer earned a Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner at Cox College of Nursing. Her background in hospital nursing serves her well in Express Care, where she cares for patients with urgent but non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
Democratic lawmakers rallied at the Missouri State Capitol on Tuesday to fight for the implementation of Medicaid expansion and push through the current Republican funding blockage.
Missourians voted to approve Medicaid expansion in the primary election on Aug. 4, 2020, becoming the 38th state to do so. The State Auditorâs Office estimated 250,000 Missourians will join the program.
Under expansion, low-income, able bodied adults become Medicaid eligible. The federal government will cover roughly 90% of the costs for newly eligible patients, and Missouri picks up the remaining 10%.
The toilet paper frenzy from the start of the pandemic is still showing consequences.
When people couldn t find extra rolls at the store, there was an increase in use of flushable sanitary wipes.
