Parking fees to rise after 10 years PARKING charges are to rise in a number of South Lakes car parks. Town centre parking will be hit first, with outer town carpark s getting away with any immediate increase. Councillor s at South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) voted in the increase, which they hope will improve town centre use, rather than discourage it. Councillor Philip Dixon, who represents Kendal Town ward, thinks people will always get in an uproar over parking charges. He said: “Cheap parking does not energise town centres, so we are happy to suggest a modest increase for the town centre car parks.

DexShell Hell in the Fells is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 23 and entries are open now. Sponsored by cycling specialist outdoor clothing brand DexShell and co-developed by experts at Cyclewise and Muckmedden, the DexShell Hell in the Fells course follows a waymarked 72km gravel route that includes 2,000m of altitude gain.

Designed for riders of all abilities, the latest addition to the festival’s outdoor sports programme will also be open to e-bikes. The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday 23rd May and entries are open now. Founded in 2007, KMF attracts thousands of visitors to Cumbria for its mix of live entertainment, sporting events, outdoor adventures, high profile speakers, taster activities, exhibitor stands and camping for all of the family. This year’s festival will run from 21st-23rd May, based in the open-air Festival Village on Crow Park.

Rural businesses in Cumbria shortlisted for prestigious award

FOUR Cumbrian companies are in the running to be named the best rural businesses in the UK after being shortlisted in the 2020/21 final of the Amazon-backed Rural Business Awards. The companies are: Rinaldo’s Speciality Coffee and Tea Ltd from Kendal (Best Rural Drink Business category); Ginger Bakers from Kendal (Best Rural Food Business category); Shed 1 Distillery from Ulverston (Best Rural Drink Business category); Newlands Adventure Centre from Keswick (Best Rural Recreational or Outdoor Pursuits Business category). The Rural Business Awards 2020/21 will mark the Awards’ sixth year of celebrating the success of businesses across the UK’s rural economy. The final takes place in February 2021. The awards are organised by rural businesses for rural businesses to celebrate their achievements and develop a strong network for rural business owners.
