Fifth Third Ballpark Will Soon Have a New Name
UPDATE: The Whitecaps have announced a new, 10-year partnership with Lake Michigan Credit Union. The name of the ballpark will be changed to LMCU Ballpark.
ORIGINAL STORY: Earlier today, Fifth Third Bank announced they’d be ending their title sponsorship with the West Michigan Whitecaps after 27 seasons but explained that everyone was parting in good standing and as friends, so to speak.
“As we neared the end of our current contract, we were both evaluating the next steps. For us, that meant considering what renewal would look like. For the Whitecaps, the evaluation process included testing the sponsorship market, and they were able to secure a very strong commitment,” said Scott Stenstrom, regional marketing and communications director at Fifth Third.

That’s not the only change in store for the Whitecaps heading into the 2021 season.
West Michigan officials announced Tuesday that it has renamed its stadium to LMCU Ballpark after entering a 10-year partnership with Lake Michigan Credit Union.
LMCU is the largest credit union in Michigan, employs a staff of more than 1,400 and over 487,000 members. LMCU has 57 branch locations, including 12 in southwest Florida.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) and the West Michigan Whitecaps have announced a new, 10-year partnership and a newly named LMCU Ballpark.
The West Michigan Whitecaps is ending a 27-season partnership with Fifth Third Bank. That partnership started in 1994.
“All the parties involved are looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead,” said Tom Welch, regional president at Fifth Third. “We’ve had a great run with the Whitecaps, and our commitment to this community remains strong. This will allow us to pursue new projects that enhance the quality of life in West Michigan and help the region thrive.”
West Michigan Whitecaps Rename Stadium
The stadium that has been known as Fifth/Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Michigan will have a new name for the 2021 season.
The West Michigan Whitecaps announced on Tuesday that the stadium they ve called home since 1994 will change over to LMCU Ballpark in conjunction with a new 10-year agreement with Lake Michigan Credit Union.
They join their neighbors to the east, the Lansing Lugnuts, as teams who have changed stadium names this offseason. The Lugnuts changed their stadium name from Cooley Law School Stadium to Jackson Field back in September.
Both the Whitecaps and the Lugnuts have been moved up to Advanced-A in the Midwest League for the 2021 season. The Whitecaps will remain a Detroit Tigers affiliate, while the Lugnuts have moved to an Oakland A s affiliate.
