Going bankrupt during a pandemic is a double whammy for Franklin, Laconia hospitals

Going bankrupt during a pandemic is a double whammy for Franklin, Laconia hospitals Lakes Region General Hospital Published: 12/16/2020 6:16:10 PM Everybody has been having a hard time this year, but the hospitals in Franklin and Laconia are having two hard times at once. “Just going through a bankruptcy in and of itself is an extremely stressful process. Going through bankruptcy while we’re in the largest pandemic we’ve had in the last 100 years is quite another endeavor,” said Ken Donovan, CEO of LRGH Healthcare, which owns both hospitals. “It’s been a little nerve-wracking for everybody involved, to say the least, for the community, employees, the medical staff.”

In order to support his mother and siblings, Joe dropped out of high school to join the Navy. He was accepted into the Submarine School and served during the Korean War. Upon discharge, he spent years working a variety of jobs while he attended night school to earn his GED. He then continued his night studies at Drexel University in Philadelphia and graduated after many years with a degree in chemical engineering.

Concord Hospital emerges as lone bidder for LRGH in bankruptcy

LACONIA — Concord Hospital is the sole health care institution interested in acquiring Lakes Region General Hospital, Franklin Regional Hospital and the hospitals’ ambulatory sites through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, LRGHealthcare President and CEO Kevin Donovan said Tuesday. “While LRGHealthcare received significant interest from other parties, no other party submitted a bid by the deadline,” Donovan said. “We have always felt that Concord Hospital is a natural fit to ensure the continued provision of excellent care in the Lakes and Three Rivers Region, and we are excited about this step forward.” LRGHealthcare has filed a motion in federal bankruptcy court to cancel a bankruptcy auction set for Wednesday. Multiple bidders present offers at such an auction, but it will not be needed as Concord Hospital has emerged as the only bidder.
