Three new Covid cases in the country
Antigua and Barbuda has recorded three new cases of Covid-19 – two of them brought in from overseas.
The most recent laboratory-confirmed cases were announced yesterday afternoon by the Ministry of Health.
They bring the total count for Antigua and Barbuda since the outbreak of the pandemic to 151. Five of them are active, and two people are said to be hospitalised.
The latest dashboard also reveals 91 tests are currently pending.
The most recent batch of samples included 40 which were processed by Mount St John’s Medical Centre. All were negative.
The three new positive cases were among 32 samples analysed by the Caribbean Public Health Agency.

The former national and Villa Lions striker was, as the time, paying tribute to a former member of the fraternity and someone who would have worked within the offices of the association, Rhea Jarvis, who passed away on Sunday, just days after she reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
BREAKING NEWS: Good Samaritan shot during robbery

A Good Samaritan who apparently rushed to the defence of a woman who was being robbed was shot by the alleged assailants.
The unnamed man was taken to Mount St John’s Medical Centre this afternoon following an incident at a food shop in Hilda Davis Drive.
Two young men are said to have approached the shop by bicycle shortly after 1.15pm – and robbed the female attendant of an undisclosed sum of money, along with jewellery.
When she screamed for help, the man who was nearby came to her assistance.
Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) on latest Covid-19 death

Mount St John’s Medical Centre confirms that a healthcare worker has died after contracting Covid-19.
The patient, a forty-six (46) year old female hospital employee who has been on vacation since mid November, was admitted to the hospital on December 10, with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). As a part of enhanced protocols for patients with ARDS at the hospital, a swab test for Covid-19 was done which confirmed our diagnosis. The patient was stabilised and transferred to the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC) for monitoring. Over the next forty-eight (48) hours, the patient’s symptoms began worsening, at which time she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at MSJMC where she continued in respiratory failure and ultimately succumbed to her illness.
The age of digitised medical records has come

Work is ongoing to fully digitise the medical records of patients.
Information Minister Melford Nicholas said that three IT specialists are currently discussing the matter, even though a vendor of the software is yet to be decided.
He also said that these experts have been working on developing the full set of guidelines which the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC), the Hannah Thomas Hospital, the MBS, and the proposed National Health Insurance scheme will be able to utilise to bill patients and/or their insurance companies for services rendered.
