Neurologist urges residents to treat stroke symptoms seriously

Speaking in the context of Stroke Awareness Month, Consultant Neurologist at the Mount St John’s Medical Center (MSJMC), Dr Gaden Osborne, is urging people in Antigua and Barbuda to treat stroke symptoms with the utmost urgency, to prevent significant damage and challenging rehabilitation.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has long called for a global response to the stroke epidemic, with cerebrovascular accidents considered a leading cause of death across the world.
That call is especially important for countries considered low-income, as strokes usually occur several years earlier and cause more deaths of people living in these countries.
50-year-old man beats Covid-19 after receiving ventilator support for over two months

It was an overwhelming feeling of joy and a sense of peace for Covid-19 survivor, Aldo McCoy and his family, as the 50-year-old walked out of the Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC) yesterday.
McCoy, became just the third person in Antigua and Barbuda to survive on ventilator support and be released after he was infected with the coronavirus. He joined two other survivors Keith Dover and Dr Raymond Daoud who had spent months in the hospital last year battling Covid-19.
Case against IT technician accused of murder to be tried in High Court

Having noted that there is sufficient evidence in the murder case against a former IT technician at the Mount St John’s Medical Centre, the Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh committed the matter to be heard in the May assizes of the High Court.
Thirty-seven-year-old Kenworth Charles of Newfield is accused of the murder of retired soldier Fitzroy Robins, last year.
Robins, of Point, was killed following an alleged stabbing incident at Bay Street, Villa, around 11:25 pm on Friday, July 24.
