Two injured in wrecks over the weekend Staff Reports news@morningsun.net PITTSBURG, Kan. Two people were injured in car accidents in Pittsburg over the weekend, according to information from the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Pittsburg Police Department.  Shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday, Pittsburg police and firefighters and Crawford County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the intersection of Stillwell Street and Centennial Drive in response to a single-vehicle accident, according to a police press release.  John Coleman, 58, of Pittsburg was heading westbound on Centennial when the 2010 Dodge Avenger he was driving “crossed the center line, struck a telephone pole, and rolled, ending up on its roof,” according to the release. “Coleman was transported by Crawford County EMS.”

Injury accident at Cherokee County line Staff Reports / news@morningsun.net CHEROKEE, Kan. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported an injury accident at the intersection of K-7 and US-400 highways last Friday after a driver allegedly attempted a left turn without yielding to oncoming traffic.  Beverly T. Morris, 29, of Columbus, was driving northbound on K-7 in a 2014 Hyundai Accent when she attempted a left turn at the intersection, according to the KHP, and failed to yield to a 2015 Chevy Silverado driven by Adrian K. Wiles, 79, of Columbus, which was traveling southbound on K-7.  Morris was taken to Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Wiles was apparently uninjured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

Teens escape serious injury in crash near Pittsburg Staff Reports / news@morningsun.net PITTSBURG, Kan. Only one of five teenagers who were riding in a car that flipped on its side and hit a utility pole Thursday in rural Crawford County a few miles west of Pittsburg had to be taken to the hospital, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, 16-year-old Curtis Kirby of Pittsburg lost control of the 2000 Buick LeSabre he was driving on the gravel roadway just south of the intersection of South 160th Street and East 530th Ave. and the car “struck a fence line before rolling onto its side and striking a utility pole.” The vehicle then “landed upright in a field after striking the utility pole,” according to the KHP.
