Shopify Shuts Down Trump s Online Stores Over Violence in US Capitol

(Credit: Shop.donaldjtrump.com) E-commerce provider Shopify has shut down the online stores for President Trump and his campaign, citing his role in instigating yesterday’s mob violence at the US Capitol.   Both Trumpstore.com and Shop.donaldjtrump.com, previously sold Trump-themed merchandise, including “Make America Great Again” hats. But on Thursday morning, the backend provider for the stores, Shopify, pulled the plug, according to The Wall Street Journal.  “Shopify does not tolerate actions that incite violence,” the company told PCMag. “Based on recent events, we have determined that the actions by President Donald J. Trump violate our Acceptable Use Policy, which prohibits promotion or support of organizations, platforms or people that threaten or condone violence to further a cause. As a result, we have terminated stores affiliated with President Trump.”

John Locher/AP Amazon is offering hundreds of Trump-affiliated merchandise for sale as other tech firms suspend the president s accounts after Wednesday s US Capitol siege. Rioters dressed in Make America Great Again hats and waving Trump 2020 flags violently broke into the US Capitol building. Four people died as a result of the violence. The company was not immediately available to comment on whether Amazon plans to limit the sale of Trump-affiliated products. E-commerce competitor Shopify removed accounts affiliated with Trump, including his official campaign store, on Thursday. Amazon is offering hundreds of President Donald Trump-affiliated items to purchase as other tech platforms suspended his accounts following the violent US Capitol siege.
