Petherick Guidelines The Petherick Reading Room provides additional facilities and privileges for readers who are undertaking advanced research and require intensive access to the National Library’s rich and varied collections. What does a Petherick Reader s Card offer? In addition to normal Library services Petherick Readers enjoy the Petherick Reading Room facilities, expanded services, special communications and event invitations, letters of support from the Library and the opportunity to engage with the Petherick community of researchers. What does the library expect from Petherick Reader s? Petherick Readers enjoy ongoing support from the National Library and the Petherick community and in return are asked to inform the Library of any research outcomes resulting from their work in the Petherick Reading Room.

What we are able to do initially If you visit our Library and ask us for assistance, we will advise you on a research strategy, support you to use finding tools effectively and suggest appropriate resources. If you phone us we are generally able to spend up to 10 minutes advising on the most appropriate information resources to guide you in your search. If your enquiry cannot be answered in a short time frame, you may be referred to our research enquiry service. You may also be referred to another information provider if that is appropriate. Treat other Library users and staff with respect, courtesy and consideration. Meet acceptable levels of personal hygiene and dress, in the interests of your health and safety and in consideration of other users. Footwear must be worn. Do not bring food or drink into the reading rooms or galleries. Pure water in transparent bottles with a tight lid may be brought into the Main Reading Room only. Water bottles are not to be used/handled in a way that could potentially damage collection material. Do not smoke on Library premises. Leave your bags or cases larger than 300 x 300 mm and other personal belongings in the free storage lockers on LG1. For safety reasons and to prevent theft of Library resources, authorised Library staff have the right to inspect equipment, folders, bags or property as readers and visitors enter or leave the building. The Library is not responsible for any personal items you bring into reading rooms or other public spaces.
