After hitting Mozambique s Sofala province on Saturday, Tropical Cyclone Eloise has left at least one person dead, thousands of houses destroyed, and tens of thousands of people directly affected, reports said.
“More than 1,000 houses have been destroyed and another 3,000 badly damaged. More than 160,000 people are already affected in Beira, according to Mozambique’s National Institute for Disaster Management and Reduction,” Act Alliance, a global alliance of more than 145 churches and related organizations, said in a report Monday.

More than 200 people were killed and 240 injured as a result of attacks on El Geneina and El Tawil village this week in South Darfur, according to Sudan’s Ministry of Health and Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC). In the attack on El Tawil village by Rizeigat gunmen, 56 people were killed and 42 were injured.

The UN said on Friday that 12 people were killed in the first half of January at the Al Hol camp in northeastern Syria,
Anadolu Agency reports.
Jens Laerke, a spokesman for the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva, said OCHA is seriously concerned over deteriorating security conditions in the Al Hol camp. We are calling on those authorities who control the security in the camp to ensure the safety of the camp residents first and foremost, but also the humanitarian workers that are working there, he said at a twice-weekly UN media briefing in Geneva.
