Climate deniers push one last scheme to keep Biden from rejoining the Paris Agreement

Published on January 7th, 2021 Christopher Horner, Steven Milloy’s comrade in developing the “secret science” censorship  policy finalized recently, before then also working for the fossil fuel industry as a professional denier, has stepped out of the shady gutters of death-peddling with a string of pieces. They aren’t exactly hitting the target, however. In fact, it’s not clear that there actually IS a target, aside from, of course, distraction and obstruction. By Climate Denier Roundup  Chris Horner has spent the years since his days as a tobacco lawyer doing  get Trump to submit the Paris agreement to the Senate as though it were a treaty, even though it’s explicitly not a treaty” campaign. The gist of this effort is that if Trump were to submit the Paris climate agreement (and Iran nuclear deal, while he’s at it) to the Senate for confirmation, as though they were treaties, the GOP-held body would reject them.

The new geopolitics of China s climate leadership

Modern Diplomacy Since 2014, China has embarked on a new era of confident, independent international policy activism under President Xi Jinping – the origins of which can be traced back to the Chinese Communist Party’s 2014 Central Conference on Work Relating to Foreign Affairs. That conference marked the end of Deng Xiaoping’s 30-year-old dictum of “hide your strength, bide your time, never take the lead.” The origins of China’s newfound desire to play a leadership role in the global fight against climate change can also be traced back to 2014. This includes Xi’s landmark joint announcement on climate change with President Barack Obama less than three weeks before the Party’s Central Work Conference.

UAE increases commitment to reducing carbon emissions and battling climate change

SHARE The UAE has set out targets to limit greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade as part of its commitment to the Paris Agreement on climate change. The country aims to cut emissions by nearly a quarter by 2030 compared to “business as usual”, which does not take into account the latest commitments. Increases in clean power capacity, especially through solar and nuclear energy, are central to the efforts to battle climate change. The measures are detailed in the UAE’s second Nationally Determined Contribution, a document just submitted to the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change as part of the country’s Paris Agreement commitments.
