Human Rights Committee issues findings on Finland and Kenya GENEVA (14 April 2021) The UN Human Rights Committee has issued its findings on Finland and Kenya which it examined during the latest online session. The Committee commended the positive aspects of how Finland and Kenya are implementing the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and made the following respective recommendations. Finland: The Committee called on the State party to address the increased cases of violence against women, particularly in the context of COVID-19. The Committee remained concerned about the rise in hate speech and crimes against vulnerable and minority groups. It also called for measures to protect the rights of the Sami people, including the revision of the Sami Parliament Act in line with the Committee’s Views adopted in November 2018.

UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances to review Switzerland, Colombia and Mongolia GENEVA (8 April 2021) – The UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) will hold its upcoming session from 12 April to 7 May, including to review country reports of Switzerland, Colombia and Mongolia. The 20th session will begin on 12 April at 12:30 pm Geneva time, and will be addressed by a survivor of an enforced disappearance in 2018. The woman, joining from Mexico, will pay tribute to all victims of enforced disappearances and share her views about the impact of the Committee’s work in her case. The opening and the victim’s testimony will be webcast on UN web TV.

UN Women’s Rights Committee issues findings on Denmark GENEVA ( 1 April 2021) The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) has published its findings on Denmark, including the self-governing territories of Greenland and the Faroe Islands, which it examined during its latest online session. The findings contain positive aspects of how Denmark is implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. These include Denmark’s recent amendments to the Criminal Code to redefine rape on the basis of lack of consent rather than use of force or threat. The Committee, however, remained concerned in a number of areas and made the following recommendations:
