77-year-old substitute teacher charged for providing alcohol to a minor
The investigation revealed the substitute teacher had befriended a student and had, on multiple occasions, provided that student with alcohol, the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office reported.

AITKIN A 77-year-old man is accused of providing alcohol to a juvenile on multiple occasions while serving as a substitute teacher at Aitkin High School. .
Guy Willard Blessing was charged Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Aitkin County District Court with gross misdemeanor of furnishing alcohol to a minor, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail or a $3,000 fine or both.

Ebba Adella Brooks (nee Johnson) was dedicated to her family and friends, an avid birder and naturalist, an exceptional hostess, and a woman of great resolve and kindness. She passed away in Duluth, MN on January 12, 2021 just three weeks shy of her 102nd birthday.
Ebba was born on February 1, 1919 in Glen Township, Aitkin County, MN. She was the fourth of eight children born to John B. and Della Storm Johnson. Ebba attended Clear Lake School, and Aitkin High School, graduating in 1937. She was the Secretary as well as the Salutatorian of her senior class. After high school, Ebba attended Augsburg College where she met fellow student Chester Brooks. After graduating in 1942, and with Chester serving as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne in Europe, Ebba began teaching high school in Marietta and Wheaton, MN. She planned to teach Biology and English, her college majors, but she also taught Math. After the war, Ebba and Chester were married on June 29, 1946.

The trek through life for Nancy Midthun Morgan has been quite an interesting one.
The 1989 Aitkin High School graduate still spends some time in the area every year â an area she says helped her grow.
âI enjoyed growing up in Aitkin after moving here as a youngster,â she said. âMy dad was a good athlete in Aitkin, and my parents knew it would be a great place to raise their children.
âThey understood how important sports is in a small town and they taught us that,â Midthun Morgan added. âIt was part of our identity. My dad built a basketball court that turned into a volleyball court as I got older.
It just so happened this fall, though, that the insanity was upped a level â or 10.
The couple is currently raising six children, Josh is a seasonal worker and Nedra is a stay-at-home mom. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, sheâs been taking charge of the distance learning for no less than two of her children at a time.
But in November, the pandemic threw the family a curve, as both Josh and Nedra were diagnosed with the virus and all six of the children were quarantined at home.
While Nedra had a mild case, Josh ended up severely ill, even in the hospital briefly. Meanwhile, through it all, the couple moved forward â juggling life, the illness and the intricacies of distance learning.
