Neither Britain nor the IRA wants the truth to come out about the Troubles, Irish PM Micheal Martin said today. The Taoiseach said there were vested interests in both that did not want the full picture of infiltration by intelligence agents known. The comments came as Mr Martin stepped up separate calls for the UK to hold an inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane. Mr Finucane, 39, who represented republican and loyalist paramilitaries during the conflict, was shot dead in his family home in north Belfast in February 1989 by the Ulster Defence Association (UDA) in an attack found to have involved collusion with the state.

Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove spoke to the EU on Friday to express concern at its triggering of an aspect of the Northern Ireland Protocol to stop the unimpeded flow of jabs from the bloc into the region.
