Flights cancelled at Ireland West Airport Knock due to ban on travel from Britain
The Government has banned all flights from Britain until midnight tomorrow.
It s after a new strain of Covid-19 was identified in the South of England, that spreads faster and more easily than others.
All incoming flights from mainland Britain have been grounded and ferry crossings are restricted to cargo only.
Minister Eamon Ryan says the Government can t rule out the possibility of that new mutated strain of the virus being here.
The decision to ban all flights from Britain for 48 hours will impact on Ireland West Airport Knock, which had only reopened over the weekend after being closed for a month - the second lockdown this year due to Covid-19.

Tánaiste concedes funding may be provided to Sligo Airport in the future Published: Friday, 18 December 2020 14:54
The Tánaiste has conceded funding will have to be provided to Sligo Airport in order to keep The Coast Guard Service in the region up and running.
Responding to a question from Independent Sligo-Leitrim TD Marian Harkin in the Dail yesterday, Leo Varadkar said that he couldn t imagine the service being moved anywhere else.
Waterford Airport was compared with the Sligo facility, having no passenger flights since 2016, yet they received €3/4 million to support similar services to those provided in Sligo.
The Tánaiste acknowledged The Coast Guard base couldn t be moved to Ireland West Airport Knock and conceded that Sligo Airport would be provided with funding, if needed, to keep the service operational.
