Wills honored with Circle of Excellence Award from the Iowa Agriculture Water Alliance

(Ankeny)-John Wills, Dickinson County Clean Water Alliance Coordinator, has been honored with the Circle of Excellence award from the Iowa Agriculture Water Alliance (IAWA) as part of the fourth annual IAWA Iowa Watershed Awards program.
Wills was honored with five other watershed coordinators who also received a 2021 IAWA Iowa Watershed Award. The recipients were announced at the 2021 Iowa Water Conference.
 âIn these challenging times, itâs important to recognize these unsung heroes who continue to make great progress implementing conservation practices that improve water quality,â says Sean McMahon, IAWA Executive Director. âThese watershed coordinators have worked during a global pandemic to help meet local community goals while also simultaneously advancing the objectives of the statewide Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy.â
Indianola s new wastewater treatment facility is moving forward as the city adds new contractor s for the site s construction.
The Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) project was originally budgeted for $45.6 million dollars. The project is currently about $44,000 under the expected cost, according to Rick Graves, the Indianola Water Pollution Control superintendent.
The new facility will be one of the first wastewater treatment plants in the state to implement the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy aimed at reducing the discharge of nitrogen and phosphorus into receiving streams, city officials said in a news release. Indianola City Manager Ryan Waller said he is aware of only a handful of other cities whose facilities meet these standards.

State awards $2.6 million for water and soil quality projects Tuesday, January 5, 2021 2:35 PM The Iowa Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $2.6 million to four projects designed to help improve soil and water quality across the state. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced the awards today in a news release. The grants, funded through the state’s Water Quality Initiative, will help advance the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy, Naig said in the release. “Through these projects, we can connect with more partners and explore new approaches to encourage even more individuals to adopt the soil health and water quality practices outlined in the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy,” he said.
