The state will pay a settlement in connection with a carbon monoxide leak at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston that sent more than 70 cadets to the hospital.
According to an agreement the State Appeal Board approved Monday, the building s boiler system leaked in November 2018, causing carbon monoxide to seep from the basement. The appeal board agreed to reimburse workers compensation insurers for the cadets medical payments because it is alleged that lack of maintenance led to the leak, said Lynn Hicks, a spokesman for the Iowa Attorney General s Office.
