Johnson County COVID update: 18 more cases reported since Sunday

How many people are in hospitals? At 10 a.m. Monday, the state reported 93 people with the virus were being hospitalized in the state s fifth RMCC, which includes Clinton, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, Wapello and Washington counties, as well as 27 patients in the region s intensive care units. The region last peaked at 371 hospitalized patients on Nov. 18 and 19, and 102 in its ICUs on Nov. 19. Officials reported 368 COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the state Monday morning, including 92 in ICUs; the previous highs were 1,527, reported Nov. 18, and 288, reported Nov. 17. Six of Iowa s 99 counties were reporting 14-day positivity rate averages of at or higher than 15%. Most counties  including Johnson, at 7.6%  were reporting 14-day positivity rate averages of less than 10%. Four were 14-day reporting positivity rates of less than 5%.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, Iowa reported another 757 cases of COVID-19 and 250 additional COVID-19-related deaths  a new record for the most deaths reported in a single day that included another five deaths in Johnson County, also a single-day record  since the state s tally at 10 a.m. Saturday, according to Coronavirus.Iowa.gov. Officials report a total of 4,901 people with COVID-19 have died from the disease across the state, including 62 in Johnson County. The five deaths reported Sunday brought the total to 10 reported here this week and 15 this month. The county s first was reported April 4. The deaths reported Sunday are not deaths that occurred within the past 24 hours, but only represent deaths that were added to the IDPH dashboard within the past 24 hours. It often takes more than a week   or even two or three   for a death to be added to the IDPH dashboard after a person has died.

The region last peaked at 371 hospitalized patients on Nov. 18 and 19, and 102 in its ICUs on Nov. 19. Officials reported 376 COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the state Saturday morning, including 84 in ICUs; the previous highs were 1,527, reported Nov. 18, and 288, reported Nov. 17. Seven of Iowa s 99 counties were reporting 14-day positivity rate averages of at or higher than 15%. Sixty-two counties  including Johnson, at 7.7%  were reporting 14-day positivity rate averages of less than 10%. Three were 14-day reporting positivity rates of less than 5%.

Johnson County COVID update: Another death, 42 cases reported Wednesday

At 10 a.m. Thursday, Iowa reported another 1,254 cases of COVID-19 and 32 additional COVID-19-related deaths  including another in Johnson County  since the state s tally at 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to Coronavirus.Iowa.gov. Officials report a total of 4,532 people with COVID-19 have died from the disease across the state, including 55 in Johnson County. The death reported Thursday was the third reported here this week and the eighth this month. The county s first death was reported April 4. A total of 1,459,921 Iowans have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus, which causes the disease, including 69,935 in Johnson County. A total of 316,434 have tested positive in Iowa. The state has reported a total of 12,396 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Johnson County, an increase of 42 since 10 a.m. Wednesday.
