The number of new reported COVID-19 cases in Iowa continues to rapidly rise as the delta variant spreads throughout the state and country.
The state is now averaging more than 500 new COVID-19 cases per day over the past seven days, according to new data released Wednesday from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
It s the first time the daily average has topped 500 new reported cases since mid-April, when the state was gradually recovering from its late autumn peak and vaccines were becoming widely available. It s also a higher 7-day average than one year ago; on Aug. 4, 2020, the state was averaging 463 new reported cases per day.
