That means they need food and water just like the rest of us, and in their spare time, they like to relax with a good ol hobby. But many politicians seem to pick hobbies meant to make them look good to their constituents. Anyone can like baking or exercising or playing with their dog. That doesn t tell us anything about the politicians as people, and maybe that s how they want it. They need to be generically normal so they can appeal to a broader base and get those sweet, sweet votes.

It’s Ross Wilburn, a former Iowa City mayor who currently lives in Ames and was just elected to a second term in the Iowa House. “I’m honored by the responsibility and I’ve got faith in our party,” Wilburn said. The party’s governing board elected Wilburn chairman this weekend. He’s the first black Iowan to lead either of Iowa’s two major political parties. “I will start with the words of Vice President (Kamala) Harris, you know, the first, but make sure that I’m not the last,” Wilburn told reporters during an online news conference.

By Sue Danielson Jan 19, 2021 Washington D.C. More than 200 Iowa National Guard soldiers and airmen are part of the Presidential inauguration security effort in Washington D.C. A group of soldiers met outside the U.S. Capitol today (Tuesday) with Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a former Iowa Army National Guard member, and Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). Senator Ernst administered the oath of office to 20 National Guard soldiers re-enlisting in the United States Army. Also pictured in 1st District Congresswoman Marianette Miller-Meeks. Iowa National guard soldiers taking part in the security include those from the 185th Refueling Wing, 132nd Wing, and 1st Battalion 168th Infantry Regiment, from Sioux City, Boone, and Des Moines.
