Could Colonial Pipeline Shutdown Mean High Gas Prices in Iowa?
Anytime that you have a pipeline shutdown, people start to panic about the price of gas. So when a cyber attack shut down the largest pipeline in the nation this weekend, the panic level is suddenly seems justified. The Colonial Pipeline cyber attack, believed to be the biggest against the American Oil infrastructure, already has fuel prices on the rise, according to the Washington Post.
The Post reports that fuel futures moved around 1% higher in anticipation of a possible fuel shortage. As of today, the national average price for gasoline is at $2.96 per gallon. The White House is reportedly putting together a task force, and the Department of Transportation is looking at relaxing rules to allow fuel to be transported easier. The Post reports that as of Sunday night, Colonial Pipeline called maintaining security and getting systems back online were their highest priorities.

According to Iowa News Now, Texas Roadhouse in Cedar Rapids partnered with Arbor Day Foundation and Trees Forever to give out free trees. This is an effort to bring back trees to the area that were lost during the August 10 derecho.
How Can I Get a Free Tree in Cedar Rapids?
It s simple. Just pull in to the Texas Roadhouse parking lot in Cedar Rapids, located at 2605 Edgewood Rd SW on Thursday, May 6 anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. There will be a station set up where you can pick up your free tree.

Iowa s News Now reports that a company named NextEra is looking to use the land around the closed Duane Arnold Energy Center for a 3,500-acre solar energy farm. Benefits of the farm include electricity that would service thousands of homes, provide around 300 construction jobs, and Linn County would get about $40 million in tax revenue. Plus, according to a NextEra representative, solar energy works to help reduce greenhouse gases and is completely emissions-free. Sounds good, right? Well, not to everyone.
