Four Armstrong, Iowa City Officials Charged With Using Taser Against Civilian for Cash On 2/12/21 at 10:55 PM EST Multiple charges, including the use of a Taser against a civilian in exchange for money, were filed against the police chief, mayor, city clerk and former city clerk of Armstrong, Iowa by the Iowa Attorney General s Office on Friday. The 21 charges stem from a multi-year investigation into alleged financial improprieties by city leaders spearheaded by the Emmet County Sheriff s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. According to a press release from the Emmet County, Iowa Sheriff s Office, Armstrong Mayor Greg Buum, Police Chief Craig Merrill, City Clerk Tracie Lang and former City Clerk Connie Thackery were charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses. Thackery, Buum and Merrill were all charged with ongoing criminal conduct. Lang was charged with fraudulent practice in the first degree.

On Friday, the Bettendorf Police Department identified Zachary Gish as the officer who shot and killed 49 year old Brian Gregory Scott. Gish has been with the department for three years, and remains on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into Scott s death. Bettendorf Police say Officer Gish voluntarily interviewed with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Once the investigation is finished, Gish’s interview along with the investigative facts will be forwarded to the Scott County Attorney’s Office for review.

Mayor and police chief of Iowa town among four officials arrested Andrew Court For Dailymail.com © Provided by Daily Mail MailOnline logo The Mayor and Police Chief of a small Iowa town have been arrested alongside two other city officials after an investigation into financial impropriety allegedly revealed that they were embroiled in criminal conduct.  Armstrong Mayor Greg Buum, Armstrong Police Chief Craig Merrill, City Clerk Tracie Lang and former City Clerk Connie Thackery were taken into custody on Thursday.  The group are collectively facing 21 charges, according to KTIV.  Residents of Armstrong - a small community of around 1,000 people located in the north of the state - have been left shocked by the arrests, the local news network reports.

Des Moines Register Four officials in the small town of Armstrong, Iowa, face multiple charges after what the local sheriff on Friday called a multi-year investigation into public misconduct. Mayor Greg Buum, Police Chief Craig Merrill, City Clerk Tracie Lang and former City Clerk Connie Thackery face a combined 21 charges, the Emmet County Sheriff s Office announced in a news release. The charges include fraudulent practice, ongoing criminal conduct, theft, misconduct in office, tampering with records, assault with a dangerous weapon, and falsifying public documents. Buum, Lang and Thackery were arrested Friday.  The Martin County, Minnesota, sheriff s office said Merrill was arrested Saturday just over the border from the town where he was employed.
