President-elect Joe Biden has announced he will nominate Tom Vilsack as secretary of agriculture. Vilsack is a former two-term governor of Iowa who served as secretary of agriculture during all eight years of the Obama-Biden administration.
Representatives of the American Coalition for Ethanol, Growth Energy, Renewable Fuels Association, Iowa Renewable Fuels Association and Iowa Biodiesel Board have spoken out in support of Vilsack’s nomination.

IARN Leaders with the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association are looking forward to working with the Biden Administration’s new leader of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Last week, President-elect Joe Biden selected Michael Regan to head the EPA. Regan most recently led the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. IRFA executive director Monte Shaw is hopeful the new EPA administrator will prioritize ethanol and the biofuels industry.
“We’re going to try to work our best with whoever is in there,” Shaw said. “We don’t have a track record with Michael Regan. I’ll admit, I’m not that knowledgeable of him, but our goals aren’t going to change regardless of who’s in there. We want to see the Renewable Fuel Standard properly enforced and implemented. We don’t want to see it manipulated and degraded like it was with the abuse of the small refinery exemptions and things of that nature.”

DES MOINES, Iowa Seeming to take the partisan out of politics, Iowa s agriculture community rallied behind President-elect Joe Biden s pick to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Former Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has a long history with the USDA, serving under President Barack Obama during both of his terms as president.
Vilsack was Obama s longest-serving cabinet member.
If confirmed by the Senate again, many ag groups want the former Iowa governor to tackle international trade issues.
