Quality photography of a restaurant’s menu items, an artist’s crafted items or a storefront’s product range can boost the visibility of small businesses online. Yet Lisa Shimkat, state director of America’s Small Business Development Center - Iowa, heard multiple local entrepreneurs say they didn’t know the basics of marketing online.
“We started running into people or businesses that said, ‘Well, I’m not really sure how to upload a photo, I’m not really sure how to take a good picture.’ We thought if that’s the only thing standing in their way, we need to remove that,” Shimkat said.

As business and industry evolve at an ever-increasing pace, the next wave of change in the form of digitalization and automation, known as “Industry 4.0,” will require new processes for businesses and new skills for employees. Today, North Iowa Area Community College joins with Iowa’s Community Colleges and the Iowa State University’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) to announce a new consortium to support the manufacturing sector in adapting to these changes. The training and awareness initiative includes partners from across the state.

Division I – Removal of triggers for Contingent Income Tax System
This would remove the “triggers” that must be met to move to the contingent individual income tax system established under SF 2417 in 2018, and make the new system effective for Tax Year 2023. Under SF 2417, the contingent tax system only goes into effect after TY 2023 when two conditions are met: General Fund net receipts for FY22 (or after) exceed $8.31 billion; and net General Fund receipts for that year grow at least 4% above the year prior (equal to or more than 104% of previous year’s net receipts).

MASON CITY, Iowa – North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) has joined a new consortium to support manufacturing in the state.
Organizers say the effort includes key state associations and agencies who have agreed to partner for the best interest of manufacturing businesses and implement an education, awareness strategy statewide that will lead to the development of curriculum to meet training needs of all sizes of manufacturing businesses throughout Iowa.
