April 30, 2021 IARN  COVID-19 restrictions didn’t stop Iowa officials from finding a way to meet with leaders in Japan, which is one of the state’s leading Ag export markets. Governor Kim Reynolds and Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig – along with several Iowa and U.S.-based organizations – recently participated in a virtual trade mission with Japan. The Iowa delegation continued conversations with Japanese companies following a successful in-person meeting in 2019 to reinforce strong relationships and expand trade and investment opportunities for the state, according to Brad Frisvold with the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s International Trade Office. IEDA coordinated the effort.

Central Iowa Blitz Project Will Add 51 Water Quality Practices within Des Moines and Raccoon River Watersheds Public and private partners announce new conservation project during today’s Clean Water in Iowa Starts Here tour stop DES MOINES, Iowa (April 28, 2021) – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and several public and private conservation partners announced a new water quality blitz project today. The project will add 40 saturated buffers and 11 bioreactors to farm fields in Polk and Dallas Counties to protect water quality and support recreational opportunities in the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers. The first phase of the project should be complete by mid-2022.

Aaron Juergens of Sunburst Family Farms near Carroll is the southwest director of the Iowa Pork Producers Association and says the past 12 months have reminded them of the importance of community, and he says there are still challenging months ahead, and everyone must continue working together to keep people safe. Jeurgens also thanked Sioux City for supporting pig farmers. The Pork Producers gave away 1,100 pork loins in the parking lot of the Sioux City Explorers baseball team.

Radio Iowa You are here: Home Governor expected to sign new bill on ag trespassing, court challenge expected A bill that criminalizes certain types of trespassing on agricultural properties has passed the Iowa legislature and now awaits Governor Kim Reynolds’ signature. Drew Mogler, the public policy director at the Iowa Pork Producers Association, says it creates new penalties for those found guilty of trespassing to set up surveillance equipment on someone else’s property to secretly capture images or video. “It does have some important protections for not just our members but really anyone who has private property and that was really the basis of this bill,” Mogler says, “protecting private property rights for folks in the state of Iowa, to have some strong support from some of the business groups in the state as well.”
