Iowa City Press-Citizen Updated 12:00 p.m. Monday: North Liberty and Coralville leaders joined Iowa City Monday morning in declaring that now is not the time to relax COVID-19 mitigation efforts and that, despite Gov. Reynolds actions Friday, the cities mask mandates remain in effect. “The thoughtful efforts of community members and businesses have helped ease the holiday surge of hospitalizations and deaths. But even with this good news, it is premature to let up now,” North Liberty Mayor Terry Donahue said in a Monday morning news release. Both North Liberty and Coralville have in place a health initiative and emergency proclamation, respectively, that tells residents to wear cloth face coverings when in public with similar stipulations and exemptions as Iowa City s mask mandate. Unlike Iowa City, they do not threaten a misdemeanor charge for uncompliant residents.
