Dozens of states file anti-trust lawsuit against Google

.... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... DENVER Dozens of more states are joining an escalating effort to prove Google has been methodically abusing its power as the internet’s main gateway in a way that hurts consumers habitually feeding personal information into its search engine and advertisers pouring billions of dollars into its vast marketing network. The lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court in Washington by attorneys general of 35 states as well as the District of Columbia and the territories of Guam and Puerto Rico. It seems likely to be combined with a similar complaint by the the U.S. Department of Justice in late October that is also trying to defuse Google’s dominance of online search and digital advertising.

38 States Sue Google Over Antitrust Complaints

English By VOA News Share on Facebook The lawsuits against Alphabet Inc. s Google continue to pile up.  On December 17, 38 states filed a joint antitrust complaint that accuses the tech giant of expanding its search monopoly through smart speakers, televisions and cars, according to Reuters. It is the third major lawsuit against the company.  The states are seeking to attach their suit with a federal suit announced by the Justice Department in October, according to the Colorado attorney general s office.  The federal case alleges Google made deals with phone makers, including Apple and Samsung, to make Google the default search engine. It alleges it is also using its Android operating system to pressure device makers to preload Google search apps and other Google products.

Google hit with another antitrust lawsuit by states

The lawsuit filed by 35 states and Washington, D.C., Guam and Puerto Rico alleges Google illegally maintains monopoly power over search engines and search advertising markets through a series of anticompetitive contracts and conduct. “Our economy is more concentrated than ever, and consumers are squeezed when they are deprived of choices in valued products and services,” Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser (D) said in a statement. “Google’s anticompetitive actions have protected its general search monopolies and excluded rivals, depriving consumers of the benefits of competitive choices, forestalling innovation, and undermining new entry or expansion.”
