Fr Paul Fernandes, S J Appointed as New Director of XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur

Share Jamshedpur:  Xavier School of Management, one of India’s premier B-Schools, announced a leadership change. After completing his term, Fr. P. Christie, S.J. handed over the reins to Fr. Paul. Fernandes, S.J., as the new Director of the country’s leading management institute. Fr. Paul. Fernandes, S.J. has taken over the responsibilities as the new Director of XLRI with immediate effect. An alumnus of XLRI Jamshedpur Fr. Paul. Fernandes (BM ’86 Batch) had worked at XLRI for many years in various capacities. Besides being a Faculty member, he was the Financial Controller. He was also the Founder Chairperson of Father Arrupe Centre for Excellence (FACE), now rechristened as ‘FACES.’ Fr. Paul earned his Ph.D. in Economics and Ethics from KU, WWF Ingolstadt, Germany. Fr. MGNREGA: Demand For Work Shoots Up By 89 Per Cent; Indicating Reverse Migration Of Labour

MGNREGA workers Indicating a trend of reverse migration following lockdowns in several states, the demand for work by households under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) shot up by 89 per cent to 2.54 crore households in April 2021. The demand in this month has been the highest as compared to any April since the recording of this data began in 2013. For example, the numbers stood at merely 1.34 crore households in April 2020 at a time when the first ever nationwide lockdown was at its peak. In fact, data from the Union Rural Development Ministry claims that the count of people demanding work under the MGNREGA increased to 3.66 crore from 2 crore in April 2020.

Foundation laid by Nehru, Bhubaneswar turns 73

The Odisha capital, whose foundation was laid by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on this day in 1948, turned 73 on Tuesday. The city, which has seen tremendous development over the past few decades, was ranked second in the Centre’s Ease of Living Index 2020 with a population of less than a million. A number of functions were held here on Tuesday to mark its 73rd anniversary amidst Covid restrictions. Recalling Bhubaneswar’s journey, Pradosh Patnaik, senior journalist and brother of economist Prabhat Patnaik, said: “The foundation of the city was laid on April 13, 1948, by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Bhubaneswar was designed by German town planning engineer Otto H. Koenigsberger in 1946. In the course of its journey through 73 years, the city has witnessed unprecedented development.”
