During the last reopening, many salons across the country introduced a waiting list system, which gave clients the ability to call in advance and place their name on a list to guarantee an earlier appointment slot ahead of the reopening.
However, it seems some businesses may scrap waiting lists this time around due to the volume of demands. It s different from business to business, the last time we opened after the first lockdown, we opened up a waiting list about two months before we opened, certainly six weeks before we opened, O Keeffe said. It proved to be a very difficult challenge for us because we had close to 4,000 names on the list.
We re hoping that we will be open by mid-May, somewhere around the 17th of May is what we re hoping for cause it will give us enough time not just to restock our salons, get our salons recleaned, also to get our staff in the right frame of mind because they have all been off now since Christmas Eve, it s a long time to be out of work. We reopened after the first lockdown with very strict protocols that the industry put together and the government approved, so we ve been all over that the last two reopenings, salon owners up and down the country have done an amazing job adhering to those protocols and making sure that staff and clients alike are aware of them and following them.

With hairdressers and barbers shut for months many people have been attempting their own DIY hair dos - with some disastrous results.
Industry experts are advising people who ve had a hair mishap to wait for their hairdresser to resolve the issue - as they hope to be open again next month.
It s almost four months since hairdressers were open here.
When make-up artist Grainne McCoy attempted to match up her lockdown roots there were disastrous results.
The video of her turning her hair yellow with a boxed bleach dye went viral.
The Irish Examiner reports that the phased reopening of such businesses could be part of a so-called vaccine bonus, which will allow people who have received their full jab to re-enter society early.
The government is apparently considering introducing such measures ahead of the expected ease of nationwide restrictions later on in the summer. There had originally been discussions that hairdressers and salons would begin to reopen on a phased basis from mid-May.
This comes after the Irish Hairdressers Federation urged the government to introduce these very measures. Last week, they issued a statement mentioning the mental health benefits of their services, particularly for those who have been cocooning since last March.
