Every year, we look forward to the bank holidays stretching out our beloved weekends by that much-needed extra day.
Now there are calls for a once-off bank holiday weekend to happen here in Ireland in September 2021 for the first time ever.
The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation has urged the Government to announce an additional bank holiday at the end of September in order to prolong the domestic tourism period in Ireland.
As well as this, they are stating that this would be a reward to the public who haven’t necessarily been able to enjoy the other bank holiday weekends at the beginning of the year, and frankly we couldn’t agree more.

Comeback announcement: Ireland will reopen on June 2
Thankfully, there is light on the tourism horizon in Ireland! Like the rest of the world, life on the island and its tourist industry have struggled with Covid restrictions. But vaccines, masks, and common sense have introduced hope into what might otherwise have been a dreary economic picture.
REOPENING: JUNE 2
Recently, Achill Tourism in Co. Mayo posted this: “Following the government’s announcement … we now have a date to work toward for the reopening of tourism businesses. We are counting down to June 2 when hotels, guesthouses, self-catering accommodation, and B&Bs can open, closely followed by pubs and restaurants for outdoor drinks and dining on the 7th of June.”

DUBLIN (Reuters) - The Irish government is considering adding more countries to a list subject to mandatory hotel quarantine on arrival because of the coronavirus, including the United States, Germany and France, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said.
Ireland has some of the strictest travel restrictions in the European Union and last week followed England in bringing in hotel quarantine for arrivals of people from countries deemed “high risk” or those without a negative COVID-19 test.
