RESEARCH COMMISSIONED BY the Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation (INMO) has revealed stark findings about the mental health impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on healthcare workers.
The vast majority (91%) of nurses and midwives who responded to the survey said they have experienced mental exhaustion while off duty.
More than four out of every five respondents (83%) said their experience of Covid-19 had a negative impact on them as an individual while 95% said it had a negative impact on their colleagues.

There are 22 patients on trolleys today at Mayo University Hospital - the third highest figure in the country.
The latest trolley figures from the Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation shows University Hospital Limerick is the most-overcrowded with 37 patients on trolleys, 24 at Mullingar Hospital and 22 at Mayo University Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Castlebar hospital continues to treat the 4th highest number of Covid-19 patients nationally.
There are 34 Covid patients being treated at Mayo University Hospital, with 9 at Galway University Hospital, and 4 at Sligo University Hospital.
Nationally, the number of patients with Covid-19 in hospitals has fallen below 400 for the first time this year.

The head of the Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation (INMO) has said the union will escalate a claim for extra holidays to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) next week.
Phil Ni Sheaghdha said the claim for 10 days additional leave was made to employers as workers are exhausted .
She told The Hard Shoulder they have set a deadline of next Tuesday for an outcome. Our members are exhausted - last November we lodged a claim on the health service for 10 days additional leave for nurses. Other trade unions representing workers in the health service have also subsequently lodged a claim.
