Gardai launch investigation after two handguns found in a ditch in Cork

Gardaí in Cork have launched an investigation after two firearms after they were discovered in a ditch yesterday.  At around 5pm on Wednesday, gardaí from Watercourse Road received a report from a member of the public that they had found two suspected handguns at Ballycollie Road, Whitescross. When detective gardaí arrived at the scene, they discovered a suspected revolver and a semi-automatic pistol that were uncovered in a ditch. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and the Divisional Search Team and the Southern Region Dog Unit are in the process of conducting a search of the area.

Bluebell shooting: Man charged with attempted murder of Sinead Connolly further remanded

A man charged with attempted murder after a shooting left a Dublin mother with “catastrophic” injuries has been further remanded in custody. Sinead Connolly, 30, was shot multiple times in the hallway of her second floor flat at Bernard Curtis House, in Bluebell, in the south of the city, on the afternoon of March 6 last. She was rushed to St James’s Hospital and has remained in a critical condition. Joseph Byrne, 32, of La Touche Road, Bluebell, was remanded in custody after he appeared at Dublin District Court on Tuesday charged with attempted murder of the mother-of-one. He also faces an additional firearms charge for possessing a G9A Grand Power semi-automatic handgun, at Bluebell Road, with intent to enable another person to endanger life on the same date.
