Grant Holloway, the world 110 metres hurdles champion, will have a world record in his sights again as he competes tomorrow in the Polish venue of Torun in the fifth of this season’s World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meetings.
The 23-year-old from Chesapeake, Virginia came within 0.02sec of the world 60m hurdles record set in 1994 by Britain’s Colin Jackson when he clocked 7.32sec in winning at the third Gold meeting in the French city of Liévin last Tuesday (February 9).
Unlike many of his United States colleagues who shone at the fourth Gold meeting in New York City on Saturday (February 13), Holloway - who equalled his US record of 7.35 earlier this season - has shifted his field of operation to Europe, and the move is paying off, as he now owns the five fastest times in the world this year.
Glasgow eyeing 2024 World Indoor Athletics Championships bid Monday, 25 January 2021
The Glasgow Events Board has approved the development of a feasibility study, with the city eyeing a bid to host the 2024 World Indoor Athletics Championships.
It follows on from the city s hosting of the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2019 at the Emirates Arena.
Later this year, a recommendation will be made on whether Glasgow should launch a bid, according to the
Glasgow Times. Hosting the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2024 would build on Glasgow s success in hosting the European Indoor Athletics Championships in 2019, the European Championships in 2018 and the Commonwealth Games in 2014 as well as UEFA s Euro 2020 matches this summer and the Cycling World Championships in 2023, said a spokesman for Glasgow Life.
