New Zealand, Vietnam, Taiwan responded best to COVID: Lowy Institute Australia’s Lowy Institute has found New Zealand, Vietnam and Taiwan mounted the best response to the pandemic in the 36 weeks after reaching 100 confirmed cases of the virus. New Zealand scored 94.4 to top the think-tank’s performance ranking, followed by Vietnam on 90.8 and Taiwan with 86.4. Brazil was at the bottom of the ranking, with the United States fifth from bottom. China was not included “due to a lack of publicly available data on testing”, the think-tank said. Informal meeting of Health Ministers recognises the importance of working together to fight the pandemic

The Minister for Health, Marta Temido, presided over an informal video conference with European Union Health Ministers on 13 January. Also taking part in the meeting, which was based in the headquarters of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, were the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, as well as representatives of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the European Medicines Agency. At the end of the meeting, Minister Marta Temido and Commissioner Stella Kyriakides held a joint press conference. The Minister for Health began by underlining the importance of the meeting, which resulted in the sharing of opinions on the COVID-19 vaccination process, currently underway in all the Member States.
