May 8, 2021 The following is a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: To mark the centenary of the diplomatic relations between the Republic of Latvia and the Holy See, a collection of articles and documents has been created, titled “100 years of Sincerity and Confidence. Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Latvia and the Holy See”. The collection has been published with financial support from the public diplomacy programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs devoted to the centenary of the state of Latvia in cooperation with the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences, and the National Archives of Latvia. It includes studies by the Reverend Mihails Volohovs and Dr. hist. Inese Runce, as well as unpublished archival documents on the relationship between Latvia and the Holy See from 1918 to 1956.

Foreign investment in the most sensitive areas, such as critical infrastructure, will be subject to a mandatory notification process. There will be a response to Russia s decision to blacklist officials from several EU member states - Rinkevics 2021-05-05 LETA/TBT Staff RIGA - A response to Russia s decision to blacklist several officials of European Union (EU) bodies and member states will come soon, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) emphasized after a meeting with Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides today. He pointed out that a statement from the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) was published on Friday of last week, following the announcement of Russia s decision. We consider this a completely unjustified step - to sanction the President of the European Parliament (EP), Vice-Presidents of the European Commission (EC) and a number of EU citizens. We have also reserved the right to respond to this step at a specific time and in a way we deem necessary, said Rinkevics, noting that these matters are being coordinated with EU colleagues.
