Government confirms funding to HOPE Foundation hospital in Kolkata to cope with COVID-19
As India battles with the record surge in COVID-19, the Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed funding for the Cork-based HOPE Foundation, to support running costs of their hospital in Kolkata.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence, Simon Coveney TD, today said: I am delighted to be able to confirm €120,000 in funding for the HOPE Foundation’s vital work in fighting COVID-19 in Kolkata. HOPE have seen a generous public response to their appeal for equipment and medicines. This support from Irish Aid will enable them to cover the vital running costs of the hospital - from the frontline doctors and nurses treating the sick, to nutritious foods which will help patients recover.

Madrid, May 6 (EFE).- Spain is sending medical equipment to India to help the Asian nation confront a huge surge in Covid-19 cases that has left its health system on the verge of collapse.
With an average of 380,000 new cases a day, India is the global epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic at the moment and has the third-highest caseload overall after the United States and Brazil.
Spanish health authorities and India’s ambassador to Spain, Sanjay Verma, arrived at Barajas international airport in Madrid Thursday to oversee the delivery of medical cargo, which will be flown out by a commercial flight with a stopover in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Ireland responds to COVID-19 surge in India

On foot of the earlier donation of 700 oxygen concentrators, the Government has donated a further 500 concentrators, 2 oxygen generators, and other vital materials to India, which continues to battle with an exponential rise in COVID-19 cases. This additional donation arrived in Delhi airport on Tuesday 4 May.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has received a large volume of queries from members of the public asking how they can help. In response, the Minister of State for Overseas Aid and the Diaspora Colm Brophy, T.D., said:

To assist India in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic, medical equipment, including an oxygen generating plant and 20 lung respirators, arrived in the country from Italy on Monday. Personnel and materials were brought by the Italian Air Force C-130, thanks to the support offered by the Italian Ministry of Defense in the activities to combat the pandemic, arranged by the Chief of Defense and directed by the Joint Chief Operating Command, a statement issued by the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi said.
